Plastics Material Chemical Compatibility

In addition to geometry requirements for any given plastic design, the selection of the appropriate material is one of the most important decisions to make. Many of the conversations we have with customers for injection molding revolves around selecting the correct material.

Our domestic injection molder, Meridian Plastics in Dallas, Texas, works closely with customers to aid in the selection of the perfect material for each application. Meridian has decades of experience in different materials as well as a supply base that works with them to identify the best matches.

One question, for example, might be: “My part is going to be in contact with one or more specific chemicals. How does this material hold up against those chemicals?”

One of the resources Meridian shared with me recently includes chemical compatibility charts for many of the most popular families of plastic materials. I find this to be very helpful and share the link here to assist you in researching the best material for your application.
